¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ

On May 4th, ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ welcomed Jean Todt, Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General for Road Safety, for a Kapuscinski Development Lecture (KDL) organised under the aegis of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the United Nations Road Safety Fund and the European Commission, in partnership with ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ's Inclusive Enterprise Research Chair.

The KDLs are high-level conferences on topics related to development, climate change, sustainable urban mobility, future transport, etc. They feature world-renowned guests such as Nobel Prize winners (Esther Duflo, Joseph Stiglitz), former heads of state or government (Michelle Bachelet, Tony Blair, Julia Gill, etc.), as well as a wide range of experts. Since the creation of the KDLs, 110 conferences have been organised in renowned European educational institutions: King's College, La Sapienza Università di Roma, Trinity College, Université Libre de Bruxelles, London School of Economics... ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ is therefore very honoured to be the second French institution, after Sciences Po, to host such a prestigious scientific event.

Entitled "Safe and sustainable mobility", the conference on 4 May featured Jean Todt, former director of the Scuderia Ferrari team, President of the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary General for Road Safety. A round table discussion then brought together various distinguished guests: Florent Menegaux, CEO of Michelin, Lotte Brundum, Executive Director of the global NGO Alliance for Road Safety and Stefanie Holzwarth of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme UN Habitat. They all answered questions from ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ students and partners of the Inclusive Enterprise Chair.

The event, exceptionally organised online due to the prophylactic context, was a great success with hundreds of participants present. The discussions with high scientific and academic added value were moderated by Maria Giueseppina Bruna, Director of the Inclusive Enterprise Chair, supported by Saul Billingsley, Executive Director of FIA.

Speakers reiterated the importance of safety as a value and called for it to be seen as a guide for our road transport systems to evolve, regardless of the country or the standard of living of its inhabitants. They unanimously emphasised the importance of developing a culture where "a high level of safety is required for all vehicles sold, all infrastructure built and all related technologies and parts developed and introduced to the markets".

In her conclusion, Maria Giueseppina Bruna recalled the main recommendations of the speakers for road safety and inclusion, an important pillar of sustainable development.

For ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Business School and its research laboratory, which have always had the ambition to create spaces for exchanges on future topics within the school, this event is a true international recognition of its know-how in this field.
