Information systems managers are responsible for implementing and optimising a company's entire systems and IT infrastructure. They oversee IT maintenance, data security and communications. To successfully carry out their missions, they must take into account the company's overall development strategy, while being able to anticipate changes and assess their impact.

In some companies, this position is also referred to as IS administrator, head of IS, IS project manager or IS engineer.

This kind of job requires solid technical skills in IT, as well as the ability to manage a team. Information systems managers are responsible for coordinating all technical teams, and must also be adaptable and able to manage both short-term projects (e.g., software corrections) and long-term projects (anticipating user needs).

What qualifications are required to become an information systems manager?

More often than not, information systems managers have studied at an engineering school, specialising in IT.

People with other types of training can also apply for this type of position, such as business school students on a Grande Ecole Programme, provided they have specialised in IT or information systems.

It's also possible to become an information systems manager after completing specialised training in the company's business, with a PhD or specialised master’s degree.

How much does an information systems manager earn?

An information systems manager on a permanent contract earns between €35,000 and €65,000 gross per year. A junior can earn between €2,900 and €3,400 gross per month, giving a net monthly salary of between €2,200 and €2,700. For a senior information systems manager with experience, remuneration can reach over €5,400 gross per month, or just over €4,200 net. The median salary is around €4,000 gross per month.
