The major challenges of the energy transition in companies
The energy transition is a major challenge for companies, public authorities and citizens. It is part of the CSR approach of companies. It implies reviewing our modes of production, transformation and consumption of energy in order to preserve our environment. The law provides for numerous measures for the energy transition. These aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to combat the growing scarcity of fossil fuels, fuel poverty and global warming. To this end, the TEPCV law sets objectives aimed at establishing a sustainable energy model for businesses. It sets out several objectives:
- Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030.
- Reduce overall energy consumption by 50% by 2050.
- Reduce the use of nuclear and fossil fuels.
- Increase the use of renewable energy.
- Reduce the amount of waste produced and landfilled by 2025.
- Promote energy autonomy by producing more green energy in France.
These measures particularly concern companies. In addition to being ecological, the energy transition is a real vector of competitiveness for companies. It allows them to stick to the ecological values of consumers, but also to differentiate themselves from the competition. It is part of the strategies for penetrating the energy market.
What state support is available for business energy transition?
Changing energy models is expensive for companies. The State offers them a number of financial aids to ensure that the budget does not act as a brake on green growth.

This is intended for financially sound VSEs and SMEs that have been in business for more than three years. Companies wishing to benefit from it commit to improving their energy efficiency and participate in an investment programme. The amount of the Eco Energy Loan can be up to €100,000. It is considered as equity capital and is taken into account in the company's balance sheet.

This is a tax credit for the energy renovation of buildings for commercial, industrial, liberal, craft and agricultural businesses. It allows them to carry out insulation, mechanical ventilation or heating work. The tax credit is based on 30% of the cost of the work, up to a maximum of €25,000 per beneficiary company.

Implementing an energy transition strategy involves going through several stages. We present them to you.
Drawing up an energy audit
The first step is to conduct an energy audit. This will enable you to understand how your company consumes and to what extent (carbon emissions, use of polluting products, GHG emissions, air quality, average energy consumption, etc.). It concerns energy consumption, but also waste management and all aspects of the company that have an impact on the environment.
Developing an energy saving policy
The second step is to identify possible areas for improvement to reduce your energy footprint as much as possible. It is time to define a precise strategy to achieve this, to set up follow-up tools and to monitor energy consumption.
Define a more sustainable energy mix
The final step is to limit your environmental footprint. The business model must allow for the preservation of fossil fuels. To do this, it is important to favour the use of renewable energy.
